The theme for the 9th annual Florida Turkish Festival, which will be held Saturday, November 20, is “Istanbul Inspirations,” in celebration of the city of Hollywood becoming the 2010 European Capital of Culture. Festivalgoers will be given the opportunity to treat their taste buds to Turkish delights such as doner kebap (rotating roast), borek (cheese and spinach filled pastry) baklava, and the country’s traditional coffee. After attendees have finished their coffee, they will be encouraged to hold onto the empty cups as they make their way to the fortune-telling tent to have the grinds read. In addition to delicious foods and mystical activities, the Tamzara Music Ensemble and Hijaz Band will take the stage, while traditional dances special to the Turkish culture will be performed by the ATA Turkish Folk Dance Group. The 9th Annual Florida Turkish Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, 100 Johnson St., in Hollywood. Experiencing the unique and fascinating culture of the Turkish community is free of charge and open to the general public. Call 954-588-7951, or visit floridaturkishfestival.org.
