Seems like a new festival pops up about every two weeks in our parts. This recent phenomenon isn’t so awful, though; it never hurts to try to up one’s cultural pursuits. The inaugural Palm Beach Art and Music Festival intends to do just that. The festival’s sponsor, West Palm Beach’s Downtown Development Authority, hopes to attract 3,000-plus visitors to the Meyer Amphitheatre so they can witness the talents of our area’s artists and musicians. Event organizers Art Nouveau Events — known for mounting strategically unrevealing body-painting parties at the Lounge — have done their part too, culling a well-balanced array of local creative types. The lineup includes six bands — West Palm Beach grrrl group Bonnie Riot, brooding post-punks the Mission Veo, commanding pop act Leading the Heroes, funky Boynton Beach’s People Upstairs, the perfectly pleasant We Kill Giants, and rockin’ reggae sensation the Many Ones — and more than 50 art vendors, body painters, and interactive children’s arts and crafts. Throw in a few fire-breathers and a break dancer or two and just about every artistic endeavor will be covered this day. General admission is free. High rollers, pay $30 for VIP and receive two free drinks and added surprises with your tickets. Palm Beach Art and Music Festival kicks off at 4 p.m. at Meyer Amphitheatre (104 Datura St., West Palm Beach). Visit wpbgo.com.
