Pro wrestling is like modern America’s Roman war games. You’ve got the lights, tights, explosions, and group catharsis through ritualized bloodletting. This Saturday at Davie PAL Gymnasium (4300 SW 57th Terrace, Davie), be reborn when the Future of Wrestling (which claims to be “Florida’s most successful and controversial professional wrestling promotion”) hosts its first event since 2009. At the event, titled “Resurrection,” promoter Bobby Rogers promises a show in the great gonzo spirit of the independent wrestling circuit.

Just how crazy is the Future of Wrestling? Rogers notes that the FOW pioneered something called the “Extreme Christmas Tree Match,” a wry nod to the Yuletide spirit. In December, fans brought gift-wrapped weapons for the wrestlers to use on one another, Rogers says. “At the last show, we had fans bring a baseball bat and a four-pound steak — the kind you cook on the barbecue.” Watch out for flying meat when the action begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
