Live Art

Art’s not merely defined by its final product — fine, performance, and literary art is art in the doing -— and that’s what you’re going to find at WeMerge Thursdays at Kevro’s Art Bar (166 SE Second Ave., Delray Beach). WeMerge is a local indie literary/art magazine run by local indie poet Renda Writer. A true force in the local literary scene, Writer has organized slam poetry events and open mic nights all over Broward and Palm Beach counties. WeMerge Thursdays, the poet’s latest event, is the ultimate open-mic night for every possible kind of artist: Singers, musicians, and bands are allowed to perform up to three songs; and speakers, writer, poets, and comedians are given eight to ten minutes to captivate the audience. And in the ultimate blending of fine and performance art, each week, a different painter is scheduled to create an original work over the course of the evening. The mic is truly open to anyone who shows up and puts his or her name on the list (doors open at 7 p.m., and sign-up starts at 7:30 p.m.), but each week’s painter is prearranged, so interested artists should contact WeMerge in advance at [email protected] No cover. For more info, call Writer at 310-404-4184 or join the WeMerge Thursdays Facebook group.
Thursdays, 7 p.m. Starts: June 24. Continues through Aug. 4, 2010
