New York-based contemporary artist and BMX bike enthusiast Ryan Humphrey is bringing his Fast Forward exhibit to the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood (1650 Harrison St., Hollywood). Its an installation of bike-inspired paintings and other works, such as a BMX-style rendition of Marcel Duchamps Bicycle Wheel. Both Humphrey and BMX pioneer Dizz Hicks will attend the opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday night. And on Saturday, the center will host a special event from noon to 4 p.m., during which Humphrey and Hicks will perform live demos and conduct a Q&A session inside the gallery. A local group of bike riders known as the South Florida Old School BMX Faction will also present a display of vintage bikes and show a screening of the BMX documentary Joe Kid on a Stingray. Theyll also construct a custom Hoffman Bicycles Loyalty BMX said to be worth about $1,000 and raffle it off to a lucky youngster in attendance.
Fast Forward will be on display through Sunday, August 14. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. General admission is $7 for adults, $4 for students, seniors, and children. Center members and children under age 4 enter free. You can reach the center at 954-921-3274, or visit artandculturecenter.org.
