Thongs are boring. What really gets us excited are burqinis — that is, burqua-style bikinis. We don’t know if it’s that their full-body spandex and built-in hood remind us of superheros or whether it’s that all that covered skin leaves so much to our filthy imaginations. So on Wednesday, the eve of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, we plan to explore our full-body coverage fetish at “Splashion.” This runway show and fete, thrown by the glossy folks over at Miami Magazine, typically showcase the latest in bandeaus, bikinis, and board shorts. This year, we’ll be looking out for the burqini.

The Heat’s own DJ Irie will blast beats as lanky models sashay in swim designs by Rebecca Virtue, Betsey Johnson, Jag, Jantzen, Perry Ellis Swim, Poupette St Barth, and La Martina. If the burqini is a no-show, at least we can drown our ennui with Cointreau cocktails, Voga Italia Wines, and ice-cold Stella. There’ll be a beach-themed photo set, and the first 400 to arrive will get a gift bag full of swag. Party starts at 9 p.m. at Liv (4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) and is free with RSVP.
