In South Florida, we don't know the difference. What the outside is like. Us natives know about all the strip clubs and dive bars -- because we see their doors everywhere. Everywhere, there are bars everywhere. And that is not typical -- allegedly. When we stumble into a dive, it's rare, but there can be porn playing on the screens.
Other things -- maybe not luckily, you might enjoy these things -- are more hidden. If you're not an exposed-to-the-scene gay man, you wouldn't know about all the private clubs there are here. You like wearing clothes in public? You wouldn't know about the huge nudist community that thrives in nothing but the flesh here. You like monogamy? OK, you definitely don't know that South Florida is the swinger mecca. And the fetish scene? That's just intense. We got that, and then we got so much more.
We got individual events where stripping down and ogling flesh are the themes! Friday at 8 p.m., we have Broward Bares It! 2011 at Seminole Paradise at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood). A fine evening with the tag line: "A one night only traipse through the world of Tantalizing Temptations, Titillating Temptresses and Torrid Testosterone." And, as we go to press, it's 98 percent sold out. Around 125 folks will take off their clothes for you. That's a way better statistic than you'll find at any strip club, let alone an ol' South Floridian dive.
All -- all -- of the proceeds go to Broward House, our oldest and largest nonprofit that services the HIV/AIDS community. Tickets cost $25. Pay it because it's South Florida, and plenty of its citizens have hearts. Visit browardbaresit.com.
