You may fancy yourself something of a hero for making it through yet another sweltering South Florida summer, but its time to put your delusions of grandeur aside to honor some true-blue American heroes at the first Fort Lauderdale Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run. Held annually in New York City since 2002 to honor the 343 firefighters and first responders who died on 9/11 as well as active military, the race re-creates the final footsteps of Stephen Siller on his way to aid victims of the attacks at the World Trade Center.
The event, heavily supported by all branches of the military, is now coming to Fort Lauderdale as well as more than 30 other cities nationwide for its inaugural run for the tenth anniversary of the tragic event. Hosted by Patriot National Insurance Group, the event will kick off at 7:30 a.m. at Huizenga Park, located at the intersection of Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue
