If you're a Broadway neophyte like we are, you're haunted by a nagging sense of inadequacy for never having seen the stage versions of the staple musicals: Singin' in the Rain, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, etc. But now we get a chance to catch snippets from all those classics in one epic revue: It's called American Fantasy II, a tribute to Hollywood's greatest musicals put on by New York's Super Nova Productions, which is studded with noted performers. Showtimes are 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (707 NE Eighth St., Fort Lauderdale). Other musicals America Fantasy II will cover: Oklahoma, Mame, South Pacific, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, plus big numbers from Disney, MGM, and Irving Berlin. Forget memory lane -- this is a superhighway. Ticket costs $36.50 for the matinee and $46.50 for the evening. Call 954-462-0222, or visit parkerplayhouse.com.
Sat., Sept. 17, 3 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 18, 3 p.m., 2011
