Gridiron! Fire! Meat! Football! Manly things men like! Finally, a food event men can appreciate. Keep your bakeoffs, your wine pairings, and your cupcake battles. The 2011 Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine, and Tailgate Festival is coming to the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre (1806 NE Sixth St., Pompano Beach) on Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., and it's telling every other food event to run home to its mama. Instead of pairing wine and cheese, they're pairing Miami Dolphins with local chefs. And these chefs won't just compete; they will collide in an epic battle for grill supremacy. Grilling gladiators will hail from such man-satisfying establishments as Shula's on the Beach, Steak 954, and Lola's on Harrison, pairing with such testaments to testosterone as Dave Shula and Dan Marino. Fans can eat, drink, and vote their faces off to decide whose grill prowess reigns supreme. Then, they can join the Community Joes and go up against the Celebrity Pros in the Gridiron Toss-Off! (It's that beanbag game you played in college. Like corn hole but with famous football players.) And just to prove that even carnivorous, football-loving real men have a sensitive side, the Gridiron Grilloff will raise money for 4Kids of South Florida, Here's Help Culinary Program, and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
