Cultural watchdogs like to wag their fingers and warn everyone that too much stimulation will somehow dull the senses. The organizers of Red Eye 2012, a hyperimmersive multimedia exhibition, aren't trying to hear that mess. The event, which goes down tonight at ArtServe, is a self-proclaimed ball of energy, with what organizer Byron Swart refers to as "overstimulation of the eye." New art will come into being during a live graffiti challenge dubbed "Cans to Canvas" with artists like Miss Marvel, Remote, Mad Neon, Ruben Ubiera, Caron Bowman, and Abstrk throwing down. And then there's the fashion show (courtesy of students from Florida International University), the Red Shorts film festival, spoken-word performances, and live music by the Hate Ash Buried and Twilight Notes, to name a couple. In case there’s any risk of corneal atrophy, there are also the performance art and two- and three-dimensional art installations to consider. The event is 6 to 10 p.m., and tickets cost $10 at the door. Advance tickets -- available online at artserve.org -- cost $7. VIP access costs $50 and includes a cocktail, hors d'oeuvres, and exclusive artistic performances. ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
