Although the title The Purple Golfcart: The Misadventures of a Lesbian Grandma sounds like a show on the Logo network trying to hit that yet-unhooked demographic of gay grannies, it's actually a book: a funny, witty, challenging memoir about one woman's journey with her own sexuality, Florida's opinion of her sexuality, and the distance between depression, humor, forgiveness, and self-love. The author, Dr. Ronni Sanlo, is a retired UCLA professor and currently director emeritus of the UCLA LGBT Center. Her story helped shaped Florida legislation on gay parents, and not in a and-they-lived-happily-ever-after kind of way. Florida has an antigay reputation, and certainly for Sanlo, wasn't afraid to show it. Stonewall National Museum & Archives is proud to welcome Sanlo and host an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about her and her story. This event will take place on Tuesday at Stonewall National Museum & Archives, located at 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-763-8565, or visit stonewallnationalmuseum.org.
