When cancer survivors are asked how they fought for their lives against the odds of cancer, you'll often hear the word hope. Hope as a sentiment, as a desire for a better tomorrow, is a powerful means not to be underestimated. That's why the American Cancer Society launched its worldwide event Relay for Life, a walk and fundraiser to provide communities an occasion to bond, fight, and hope for the end of cancer. This Friday marks the launch party for the fundraiser at Hollywood's Tempo Music & Art Gallery. In royal fashion, the event hosts will roll out the red carpet beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress up like their favorite movie stars. Perhaps hanging in your closet you have garb that reminds you of Zooey Deschanel? Audrey Hepburn? James Dean? Once suited up in glamorous red-carpet wear, meet the Relay for Life volunteers who will be on hand to give details about how to join the upcoming relays. In addition to a worthy cause, the shindig will feature live music, food, and a raffle. Tempo Music & Art Gallery is located at 2000 Harrison St., Bay No. 7, Hollywood. Call 954-295-2055, or visit relayforlife.org/hollywoodfl. No cover.
