OK, so they aren't real nuns, but it definitely caught your attention. Nunsense A-men!, a musical comedy starring men in drag, will debut Thursday at the Andrews Living Arts Studio in the Fat Village Arts District of Fort Lauderdale. The original concept -- featuring normal, non-male nuns -- started as a line of greeting cards in the '80s and slowly morphed, first into a cabaret and then into a full-length musical. Clearly, it was a hit. Nunsense A-men! is the original show, only all the characters are portrayed by men in drag. Critics advise prospective audiences to think of the show as "Mrs. Doubtfire enters the convent." Hmmm. Better see it to believe it.
Nunsense A-men! will debut at 8 p.m. Thursday and run through December 31 at Andrews Living Arts Studio (23 NW Fifth St., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased online or at the box office. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday with 3 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday. There will be a special New Year's Eve performance at 5 p.m. Call 954-530-1879, or visit andrewslivingarts.com.
