When the kid won’t get his nose out of the iPhone — at the dinner table, during the family portrait — a parent’s mind tends to wander to a simpler time, when ruddy-cheeked children had only their imaginations (and myriad chores) to occupy the hours. Introduce the kids to a pre-internet existence at the Museum of Art|Fort Lauderdale’s Family Day: Winter in the City. The three-hour, all-ages program includes turn-of-the-century games, music, and dress-up for the kids. Broward County Main Library Youth Services will provide story time, and Art Explosion: A Family Oriented Workshop will conduct hands-on activities. Everything ties together with the museum’s “Return to the Ashcan” exhibition, highlighting paintings from the early 1900s.
Family Day: Winter in the City is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Art|Fort Lauderdale, located at 1 E. Las OIas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Activities will be held in the lobby. The event is free with museum admission ($10 for adults, $7 for military and seniors, $5 for kids ages 6 to 17, and free for kids 5 and younger). Call 954-525-5500, or visit moafl.org.
