Monty Python’s Spamalot is one of the most successful convergences of comedy nerd culture and Broadway fanaticism ever to trot across the stage using coconuts in place of horses. The cheeky musical comedy, based on the 1975 cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail, has been going strong since 2004, touring the world several times over. In addition to all of those often-quoted jokes from the King Arthur parody, the show sends up Broadway archetypes, like the diva who’s pissed about her lack of time in the spotlight, a barely closeted male lead, and references to the show’s numerous Tony Awards. And yes: Familiar favorites like the Knights of Ni and the evil rabbit are in full effect. Monty Python’s Spamalot will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Au-Rene Theater in the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
