There, Patricia Montes and Erica Avery — only 15 and 16 years old — uploaded scores of pictures of themselves in provocative clothing, if any, and clutching blunts and bottles of alcohol.
Avery posted status updates including "Jesus take the wheel so I could roll this blunt" and "faded off the kush, Im gone" next to a picture of herself blowing smoke. Montes wrote "#fuckthe law" on October 19.
On the heels of the "2 Drunk 2 Care" tragedy, in which 20-year-old Kayla Mendoza logged extensive marijuana use on Twitter before allegedly killing two women in a head-on collision, their troubling social media footprint marks a fresh example of very young South Florida women using social media to burn a brazen disregard for the law — and then committing horrific crimes.
Montes and Avery wept at their court appearance last month and will be tried as adults in Broward County Circuit Court.
On November 1, authorities say, Montes and Avery invited Montes' best friend — who had fallen out of touch with them over a boy — to a house in Hollywood. Montes told the 16-year-old she missed her and wanted to patch things up. Inside the house were several teenage males: Dwayne Henry, Lanel Singleton, and Jayvon Woolfork.
Around 1 a.m., while the visitor was watching TV and listening to music, Montes and Avery grabbed her, held her down, and kicked her in the head, according to a police report. They called her a dumb bitch, the Miami Herald reported. They called her a ho. They allegedly dragged her by the hair to a bedroom, where they stripped her and then 19-year-old Woolfork raped her.
Montes recorded some of the incident on her phone, which authorities obtained. After viewing the video, Broward Judge Lisa Porter called it one of the most "depraved" crimes she'd seen in her 25-year career.
Immediately after that early November night, both Montes and Avery quieted their antics on social media. Except for one last status update that Montes wrote that afternoon at 4:12, hours after the alleged gang rape and days before her eventual arrest: "Your a hoe; Stop trynna act like a saint."
