Summer may still be many months away, but the Summer of Love is right around the corner. Dust off those bell-bottoms and prepare for the glorious kaleidoscopic wonder of the '60s-era invasion of South Florida this Friday night. "The Summer of Love Concert" features Styx bassist and vocalist Glen Burtnik, who leads the way in this trip of sight and sound and everything Woodstock. Capturing all the era's beloved harmonies, Burtnik is joined by an all-star cast of musicians and unveiling spot-on renditions of favorites from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and many more. No good time travel back to Woodstock would be complete without a visual treat for the mind, and "The Summer of Love Concert" delivers with Marc Rubinstein's psychedelic "Pig Light Show" -- Rubinstein is a '60s icon known for his lighting work at the Fillmore East during the actual Summer of Love's heyday.
This Woodstock flower-power wonderment occurs Friday at 8 p.m. at the Broward Center for Performing Arts' Amaturo Theater, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets start at $71. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org.
