Although they make for a fun set of friends, the spoken-word crowd could stand to come with a warning. That's because, chances are any little interaction you have with them -- however private, heartbreaking, comical, or even inane -- tends to end up as fodder for the stage. Want to bear witness to other people's innermost observations? If so, then head to the next installment of POEM: A Midnight Summer Dream at C&I Studios on Saturday. Described as an "Open Mic Meets Def Poetry Jam" by the night's promoters, POEM will feature a roster of local spoken-word artists but is also open to musicians and standup comedians. The night's hosts, Sylvester K. Bailey Jr. of Team BAILEY (that's short for believing, aspiring, inspiring, loving, everyone is young) and Joel Jones, will be joined by DJ Donzo, who will provide the backbeat. C&I Studios is located at 541 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Admission is complimentary, but RSVP'ing is advised. Showtime is set for 8 p.m. until 2 a.m.
Sat., June 14, 8 p.m.-2 a.m., 2014
