Feed your head; why spend your time after work guzzling cheap beer in a dive bar when you can have an enlightening Happier Hour at the Museum of Art|Fort Lauderdale? Every Thursday at Happier Hour, the museum’s café stages cultural events like book readings, presentations, and artists discussions, along with two-for-one specials on its fine assortment of wine and beer. This week, the museum kicks off its first book club during Happier Hour, with the featured selection being recent 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Goldfinch, by Donna Tart. The novel is described as a coming- of-age tale told from the first-person perspective of 13-year-old protagonist Theo Decker, who survives a terrorist attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and somehow ends up fencing Carel Fabritius’ 1654 masterpiece, The Goldfinch. On the New York Times bestseller list for 46 straight weeks and with rumors circulating that the producers of the Hunger Games movies are considering making the book into a movie, The Goldfinch is one hot read. Be there among literati peers, discussing its attributes while enjoying reduced-price drinks and complimentary hors d’oeuvres. The book club starts Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the NSU Museum of Art|Fort Lauderdale, located at 1 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Free admission. RSVP and purchase your book by calling 954-262-0234. Visit moafl.org.
