Freaks, Geeks, and Queens

As this week creeps along and Halloween dressage has yet to be selected, first instincts may be to dash to the Halloween Superstore and bombard the cashiers for advice on what can be cobbled together out of discount-bin items, but don't be that person. Instead, consult a higher power -- in this case, the grand dame of South Florida drag, Misty Eyez. Misty knows something about pulling together a bomb-ass look, as evidenced by her pearly gems of life advice: One, less is never more. Two, paint it for the back row. Three, your face is a blank canvas, and you can do anything you want to it. Take this advice, create something amazing, and walk it on over to Wicked Manors: Freak Show, where Misty will be the MC for a night of costume contests, dancing, DJs, food trucks, and other festivities, all for a good cause. "I am superexcited for Wicked Manors," Misty enthuses. "The great people of South Florida never cease to amaze me with their creative and outrageous costuming." Starting with a kid's event at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing until the wee hours all along Wilton Drive, the night includes several costume contests (including best dead celebrity and best group costume). Proceeds for the night will benefit the Pride Center, which provides HIV testing, wellness empowerment, and peer support. There will be parking in the Wilton Manors Municipal Complex (21 N. Dixie Highway, Fort Lauderdale) and Wilton Manors City Hall (2020 Wilton Drive). Visit
