Robots will invade Fort Lauderdale for the grand reopening celebration of the Broward County Main Library this Saturday, and guests at the festival will have the chance to try out one of these small personal R2-D2s at the Creation Station, the library’s high-tech gadget workshop. But if you’re not into technology, there’ll be music, storytelling, poetry, painting, puppetry, even light snacks — something for everyone and the opportunity for everyone to be into something. The sound of music will echo throughout thanks to the Gold Coast Banjo Band, guitarist Grant Livingston, and the Broward Women’s Chorus singing for the holidays. Teens will enjoy a spoken-word poetry slam, a “Bookface” photography exhibit, and a quick draw/paint out (that just might inspire adults as well). For the kids, there’s face painting, a puppet show of “The Tortoise and the Hare,” and a showcase of pop-up children’s books. And even adults are targeted with perhaps more serious but equally fun events including a jewelry fair, a discussion by Fort Lauderdale Magazine Editor Tom Swick of the best American travel writing, and CFP Steven Pomeranz letting you in on the best resources for financial planning. The free showcase of the library’s resources runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Visit browardlibrary.org for the schedule of events.
Sat., Dec. 13, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2014
