Granted, the catastrophic magnitude 7 earthquake that shook the nation of Haiti was more than five years ago, but in what is one of the world’s most impoverished countries, there is still a vast amount of cleaning up to do. Enter nonprofit 501(c)3 organization Hollywood Cares for Haiti, a benevolent group started as a partnership between Temple Beth El and First Presbyterian Church in 2006 that aims to raise funds and awareness for Haiti’s orphans — particularly those ravaged by the outbreak of HIV/AIDS. This Sunday, the group has its big fundraiser, Hollywood Healing Haiti, at ArtsPark at Young Circle. Proceeds raised on this night will go to benefit the Project Papillon Orphanage, School and Community Youth Center in Port-au-Prince. Audiences are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the four local bands performing and partake in a plethora of arts and crafts for the kids. Grammy-nominated, bilingual Latin-fusion outfit Locos por Juana will be headlining this affair, which will also feature a wide array of food vendors and local artisans. All this charitable fun takes place Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at ArtsPark at Young Circle, located at 1 N. Young Circle in Hollywood. Admission is free. Call 954-920-8225, or visit hollywoodcares.net.
