We have tons of culinary events in South Florida. Many make sense. Some don’t. We love beer down here, so obviously we’d want to honor our favorite pastime. We have tons of seafood, most notably stone crabs. Of course, we’re going to want to celebrate that. And everyone loves a burger. A burger fest is a good idea, anywhere on the planet. While we’re always ready to get down for a food- and booze-filled event, one of our most beloved occasions is kind of mind-boggling. We’re not known for growing large amounts, and no one likes B.O., but for whatever reason, the Garlic Fest is one of the area’s favorite festivals — hey, a good time doesn’t need to be substantiated by reason or sweet scent.
Kicking off Friday at 5 p.m., the weekend affair is bringing food, booze, music (Rebelution on Friday and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on Saturday), artists and crafters, chefs, cooking competitions, and plenty of the odoriferous culinary ingredient to downtown Delray Beach. New this year is a cooking collaboration on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. For $75 per person, chefs Blake Malatesta of 50 Ocean, Ernie DeBlasi of Luna Rosa, Joey Giannuzzi of the Farmers Table, and Mark Jones of Hudson at Waterway East are creating a joint multicourse dinner. Admission to the festival costs $20 in advance, $30 at the gate, for Friday. On Saturday, it’s $10 in advance, $20 beginning at 6 p.m. It’s $10 all day long on Sunday. Kids age 10 and under are admitted free. The “Best Stinking Party in Town” is open Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It takes place at Delray Beach Center for the Arts, located at 51 N. Swinton Ave. in Delray Beach. Visit dbgarlicfest.com.
