It's time to plan your summer vacation and there's not enough cash in the piggy bank to book that trip to St. Bart's. Who cares about a villa in Barbados when you can hop over to Bahama Breeze and take a trip to the Caribbean with their new line of Legendary Island Cocktails?
Eight cocktails from world famous bars in the Caribbean are featured. Bahama Breeze executive chef Peter Olsacher was tasked with visiting several tropical islands to visit where the cocktails originated from (we do not feel sorry for him in the least).
His search for these legendary libations took him to the Virgin Islands, Havana, and Puerto Rico, to name a few. The cocktails are priced from $7 - 9 and include:
The Original Daiquiri
Named after a small beach in Cuba, the
original daiquiri was developed in the late 1800's as a medical
treatment for tropical ailments. Word spread quickly, however, that the
drink, made with rum, fresh lime, and sugar cane, was simply
delicious. It quickly became a favorite cocktail with Ernest Hemingway
downing them on a regular basis at the La Floridita bar.
The Painkiller
First
invented at the Soggy Dollar Bar in Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin
Islands, this potent cocktail is a mix of cream of coconut, pineapple,
orange juice, and Pusser's dark rum, topped with freshly ground nutmeg.
The Goombay Smash
Known as the Bahamian National
Drink, this take on the rum punch was invented at the Blue Bee Bar in
Green Turtle Cay. The Goombay Smash is made with Captain Morgan original
spiced rum and Meyer's dark rum blended with fresh orange and pineapple
juices.
The Dark 'N Stormy
Bermuda's national drink, this simple drink is made by floating Gosling's Black Seal rum onto a glass of ginger beer.
Batida de Coco
This Brazilian version of a pina colada is made with Lebblon Cachaca, cream of coconut, and pineapple juice.
The Havana Hotel Special
The
signature drink at the famed Hotel Nacional in Havana, thispineapple
punch is made with Bacardi Superior rum, pineapple and lemon juice, and a
splash of apricot brandy.
Parrot Passion
Hailing from Old San Juan's Parrot Club, the
Parrot Passion is a blend of passion fruit, orange juice, Cointreau, and
Bacardi Limon rum.
