Step into Maracas Mexican Bar & Grill in Oakland Park, and instantly you're transported to another world -- one where bright colors, loud music and strong margaritas make for a perfect afternoon (or evening) for sipping away all the stress of the day.
With plenty of Mexican beers on tap, and super-cheap drink specials by the boatload, it's no wonder Maracas doesn't stay quiet about its customer-catchers.
The party spirit is infectious thanks to 46-oz. drinks on special, and food that will help you catch that mariachi fever.
That's why -- for today only -- Maracas is our Deal of the Day, where you can receive $40 for just $20 (half-price) on food and drink.
An oasis of color in the middle of drab office strip mall along Federal Highway, Maraca's fuses flashy drag culture (think cheery and glittery) with all the flavors of Mexico. From the drinks to the food, everything has its own fiesta flair.
And with $2 margaritas several days a week, it's damn near the happiest happy hour this side of the border. If you can, stop by for Margarita Madness -- every Monday, from noon to midnight, where the restaurant offers up $3 frozen (or on the rocks) margaritas, and fruit-flavored ones for just $3.50. Or take a seat outside and sip away on some house-made sangria ($6).
Be seated for lunch or dinner and you'll receive a complimentary bowl of salty tortilla chips and fresh salsa, one that's just right -- not too spicy, but not too mild. For an appetizer, be sure to try the traditional Mexican favorite: nachos ($6.95), served here layered with loads of refried beans, melted cheese, sour cream and jalapenos. There's also the mini chicken chimis ($7.95), sizzling queso fundido ($6.95), and an empanada platter ($7.95).
Need something more? The Maracas Pupu Platter may just what you're looking for. It features grilled chorizo skewers, chicken flautas, mini chimichangas, buffalo wings and calamari ($12.95).
As for dinner -- here, fajitas come out sizzling, and enchiladas are packed full. Not to be missed: the Giant Mission Burrito ($10.95), a monster 12-inch tortilla stuffed with beef (or chicken), refried beans, rice, pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Basically everything that you love about Mexican jammed tightly into one enormous plate.
With a lively crowd and colorful decor, it's good to stop by any day for one of Maracas specials, like Sangria Sundays. And with brunch for just $14.95 (with unlimited drinks!) an early morning fiesta Mexican-style is just as special.
