Remember pulling mom's peanut butter and jelly sandwiches out of your lunch bag in grade school? She was so sweet -- she always cut the crusts off. For some reason, those sandwiches always tasted great after being smushed in your lunch bag for a few hours.
That's the inspiration behind "No Crusts," a peanut butter and jelly-flavored brown ale that's on tap tonight at The Funky Buddha, Boca Raton's only DIY-style brewpub.
The Buddha brewmasters whipped this dark brown up with flavors of fruit and rich peanuts. Word on the street is this brew is spectacular (it was tapped last night), and will probably fly out of the bar this evening.
Owners Ryan Sentz and Jim Bast are known for their wild beer creations that match their "Funky" moniker. Recent brews include a Maple Bacon Coffee Porter that earned a heap of acclaim on BeerAdvocate.com, as well as a Mango-Scotch Bonnet Wheat.
I'll be up at the Buddha tonight at 5 p.m. sampling "No Crusts" if anyone wants to say hello and share a few pints of nostalgia.
