Sometimes, it's little innovations that make a world of difference. At casual,

comfort-food-driven eatery Bash, cheap and homey abound. Pork chops and

pasta are cooked just like Mama used to make, but one of the

appetizers -- a tray of hummus with pita -- is reworked. There, the

creamy chickpea spread is topped off with a slathering of brick-red

kimchi sauce, a spicy, garlicky Asian sauce that's similar to sriracha.

The piquant sauce lends a savory quality to the hummus that sends this

Mediterranean treat into the stratosphere.
