Dr. Dog, the Philadelphia quintet with a Ph.D. in psychedelic rock just jammy enough for the Relix crowd and structured enough for the rest of us, makes its return to South Florida in April. Expect a night of bellow-alongs in step with the best of George Harrison's riffs from the Beatles, the vocal tapestries of the Band, and the witticisms of Robert Pollard.
Judging by the guys' insistence on dressing like lumberjacks and turning the stage décor into a tiki-lounge setting, this could be a pretty sweaty night when the guys hit the Culture Room on April 15. This is the Dog's first show in Fort Lauderdale since releasing Shame, Shame last year via Anti-. Having experienced more than a dozen performances by the band personally, I always find it extra moving to see performers with such a good sense of humor about themselves who don't let that dilute the tightness of each harmony-rich, solo-slinging melody.
With little to offer by way of recent footage from Dr. Dog, let's experience the band's cover of Architecture in Helskinki's "Heart It Races" matched with a montage of the best sport you never knew existed, fingerboarding.
