When God created summertime, She did so with the intention of having humans spend the entirety of the hottest months smoking joints and listening to reggae music.

What the Almighty didn't plan, however, was that a manmade buzzkill known as "the war on drugs" would ruin our high some 4.5 billion years later. And She isn't the only one inquisitively scratching her dreadlocks.

"The main thing is that herb is a plant that was put here before mankind was put on Earth," reggae artist Julian Marley recently said in an interview with Island Stage. "So how can you say something planted naturally like a fruit [is illegal]?"

Like his legendary father, Bob Marley, Julian is devoted to the Rastafari way of life. And like his late father, the 38-year-old musician treats pot like a gift from God.

"For me, it is like a fruit," he continued. "So if God put something here, then I know I am supporting what God is supporting, and someone is fighting what God's doing... We fight for the right."

Celebrate this steamy season the way God intended with Julian Marley at Revolution Live this week.

Julian Marley and the Uprising Band. 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Revolution Live, 100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $18 in advance, $20 at the door. Call 954-449-1025, or visit jointherevolution.net.
