Tonight, a slew of heavy hitters will be tuning up and plugging in at Hard Rock Live in order to pay tribute to the great Jimi Hendrix, and have some fun doing it.
Any of the featured musicians would be cool to see on their own, probably in a smaller venue, but it ought to be a real treat to have them all on stage together jamming through Hard Rock's killer sound system.
And Hendrix's material ought to serve as a great launching pad for these guys, as classic blues tunes did for Hendrix himself. What shredder doesn't love the opportunity to dig into a Hendrix tune?
Ahead of the show, County Grind would like to offer a little sampler featuring some of the more interesting cats on the roster.
Billy Cox played bass with Hendrix before he became famous. They met in the military, actually. Years later, after the Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up, Cox and Hendrix reunited and formed Band of Gypsys, which is some pretty fire Hendrix. He also accompanied Hendrix on stage at Woodstock. It'll be very cool to have this guy in the house tonight.
Robert Randolph will send your soul through the roof with his masterful playing of the pedal steel guitar. Here he is getting into some Hendrix.
Dweezil Zappa has spent much time recently paying tribute to another American music legend, his father Frank Zappa. He delivers that complex material skillfully, and hearing him cut loose tonight and get dirty on some Hendrix jams will be cool.
Robby Krieger was there back in the day. While Hendrix was stirring up voodoo on his six string for acid heads, Krieger was too with the Doors. He was laid back, playing mystical electric guitar around Jim Morrison's chaotic energy. Here he is not long ago, doing his sans Morrison thing.
Bootsy Collins may be the funkiest cat on the planet. Your booty will shake involuntarily when you catch site of him. Look:
