Music deserves proper space for true appreciation, just like paintings and other forms of art do. And although it cannot be hung on walls, it can color what's between them quite nicely. Fortunately, the folks at Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach know this and have been thinking outside the box and inside the walls for the past couple of years, hosting a weekly music-central event called Art After Dark. See the full winter lineup after the

jump, head to the museum, and breathe deep.

The event allows for musicians to paint in their medium, and for appreciators to bask in air which is sweet with music, and uncontaminated by the cigarette smoke and loud chatter that fills typical music venues. In addition, Art After Dark offers intellectually and sensory stimulating features around the music itself. On any given Thursday, the night will include a tour of a current exhibit, wine, beer or liquor tasting, as well as a film or a talk or workshop on a variety of topics led by one of Norton's own, or another member of the community.

The 2012 winter lineup for Art After Dark is eclectic, highlighted by County Grind favorite soul-pop outfit Mineo later this month, Zydeco band Porchdogs for a Mardi Gras celebration in mid-February, and Poly-Rhythmic Afro-Latin Dance ensemble Moska Project the following week.

January 12: Latin-Caribbean soul by Amereida

January 19: The Troy Anderson Quartet performs A Tribute to Satchmo; acoustic performance by
Ric Pattison

January 26: Soul-pop by Mineo; acoustic performance by Griffin Anthony.

February 2: Jaime Ousley Jazz Band CD release party

February 9: DJ German Garcia Band

February 16: Mardi Gras celebration with Zydeco band, The Porchdogs

February 23: Poly-rhythmic Afro-Latin dance rhythms of Moska Project

March 1: Grammy-nominated Saxophone player John Michalak; acoustic performance by Jason Cardinal

March 8: Jazz Duo Davis & Dow

March 15: St. Patrick's Day celebration with Celtic-roots band Uproot Hootenanny; acoustic
