Max "Finkenbeans" Finkelstein, bass player for swampy-surf rock outfit Brain Chips, lost his infant son, Benjamin "Spider" Reeves, last August due to complications arising from his premature birth. Although it was an enormous loss for the musician and his girlfriend, Holly Reeves, the couple is extremely grateful for the services provided to them by the March of Dimes charity. "I would not have known anything about my son without their help," says Finkelstein about the American charity that specializes in improving the health of babies and assists parents of children with birth defects.
Born three months premature on April 28, 2010, after Holly had to undergo an emergency C-section, "Spider" weighed one-pound, six-ounces at birth and was considered a "micro-preemie." He was born with severely underdeveloped lungs and was incubated nearly all of his short life until succumbing to scarring in his lungs -- following three months of oxygen dependency -- in August.
Finkelstein shared only a few short months with his son but still feels
"indebted" to the March of Dimes cause for this and for saving the life of his soulmate, girlfriend Holly Reeves.
In honor of the organization, he has put together this March of Dimes benefit.
Besides
his own psycho-surf outfit, Finkelstein has recruited five more
like-minded bands to help out on Saturday night. Joining Brain Chips on stage at
Hollywood's Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub are Loxahatchee Sinners Union, the Killer Green Buds, To Be Hated, Space Between Words, and Nightly
Death Shade. Suggested donation is only $1.
Finkelstein tells us there are going to be plenty of raffle prizes as
well.
Can't make it to the gig? Finkelstein also has a team
walking in the "March for Babies Walk" on April 30. He has raised
$3,000 so far and is accepting donations under the name "Spiders Hope"
at the March for Babies website.
