The Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park is always a beautiful and sacred place. A couple times a year, though, the spirit grows especially warm and inviting -- once in the fall when Magnolia Fest is held, and once in the Spring for Springfest. With Mag Fest just around the corner -- it takes place October 20-23 -- it's about time for Suwanee devotees to start looking ahead to their Springtime group retreat. And, right on time, here's the initial lineup for the 16th annual Springfest, which will be held March 22-25, and early bird tickets are on sale online. Additionally, specially discounted tickets will be available on-site at Magnolia Fest.
Traditionally, Mag Fest and Springfest are rooted in the rich soil of Americana, featuring lots of folk and bluegrass acts: some big names that are especially familiar to folks in the jam band community, and some less famous artists who are well known and loved by the fans of the less popular genres. The acts that have been announced thus far for the upcoming Springfest hold true to this.
Topping the bill is one of Colorado's most popular, and perhaps headiest, group of pickers the Yonder Mountain String Band. Followed by bluegrass masters Peter Rowan and Tony Rice, billed together as a duo, relative youngster Justin Townes Earle (son of Steve Earle), and the Emmitt-Nershi Band, a bluegrass project featuring Drew Emmit and Bill Nershi of legendary Colorado jam bands Leftover Salmon and the String Cheese Incident, respectively. The line-up fills out nicely from here on down.
