Piano and drums mixed with vocals that are simultaneously haunting and tough define the sound of The State Of, the female duo from Miami playing Propaganda tonight. While you can really hear their influences (Fiona Apple, Portishead, Tori Amos, to name a few) they blend them so seamlessly, the final product falls beyond the sum of its parts. Nachtmahr likes his electronica dirty. He took a hiatus from his electro/EBM roots for a while after becoming disappointed with the Industrial scene. But now he's back, face partially shielded from the audience, creating what he calls "brutal, uncompromising club-oriented music." Expect lots of screamy vocals and abrasive electronica.
