Heavy Bastard of Punk Past Opening for the Misfits at Culture Room

Hello, Heavy Bastard. No, we're not referring to your weight gain after last week's holiday dinner, or that bitter, lovable baby-eating villain from the Austin Powers flicks.

Perfecting their load to deliver a big debut tonight at the Culture Room, Heavy Bastard will open for the renowned '70s punk metal outfit the Misfits. And how do we know about Heavy Bastard? Well, a little tipsy chat with a bartender will go a long way.

A couple of weeks ago we went to gather some irie vibes at the Culture

Room, but an underage tween crowd of skankers sent us straight to the

bar for a refill on our whiskey. After chatting with downstairs deck

bartender Remy Remoulade, the vocalist shared a bit about his new

four-piece, who's ready to rock with no inhibitions come Friday night.

"We are not inspired by the old school, we are

the old school." Remoulade said. Even though his surname suggests he

would be a delicious smother atop a crab cake, we can hope there are

some chili flakes sprinkled in for saucy measure. Inspired by late '70s,

'80s and early '90s hardcore punk rock, the collective will produce

covers of the bands they grew up rebelling to, once upon a time. "Heavy

Bastard is about revisiting a time when punk rock was at its rawest,"

shared Remoulade. "You will hear songs from bands you haven't heard from

in years."

Remoulade could hardly contain himself, rattling off a

list of bands him and his buddies plan to bring back to the forefront.

Expect tracks from the likes of Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys,

Descendents, Black Flag, Fear, the Ramones, DRI, Angry Samoans and

Catch Remoulade on vocals, along with Julian Hollowell on

guitar, Jack Henry on drums and Sky on bass. Thrash around and reconnect

with the art of being politically incorrect with Heavy Bastard. Show

time is 8:30pm sharp.

The Misfits, with Juicehead and Heavy Bastard. 8 p.m. Friday, December 3, at Culture Room,

3045 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $19.99. Call
