Consummate Palm Beach County music champion Steve Rullman is taking a stab at the publishing business with a new print publication called Purehoney. The newspaper-style monthly will be an extension of Rullman's webiste TheHoneycomb.com and his weekly e-mail newsletter of the same name -- but with a twist. Rullman is going with a throwback newspaper approach that will consist of one 22-inch by 34-inch sheet that comes folded down to 8.5-inches by 11-inches. Besides its content of event listings, band spotlights, artist features, and album reviews, readers will also discover a full-color piece of artwork upon opening the folded paper.
Additionally, Rullman, who has been booking bands in and around the 561 longer than most kids in current bands have been out of preschool, will include a free downloadable music compilation with each issue. "We're going old-school with a 'zine that we know will provide both a service to the South Florida scene and a vehicle for businesses to get their message out to a growing segment of readers who embrace and admire a 'retro product'" explains Rullman in the press release circulating about the nascent publication.
Purehoney's first run will consist of 10,000 copies, and it will be distributed from North Palm Beach thru Miami at "hip restaurants, venues, bars, coffee shops, kava bars, record stores, hair salons, vintage clothing shops," and other hipster havens throughout the tri-county area. The debut issue is slated for a August 25 street date.
