We recently announced County Grind and Fort Lauderdale's Green Room are teaming up for the
first of what we hope to be a regular series of live music events. The first one comes on Saturday, January 14. We are beyond excited that the inaugural event is headlined by Miami's
synth-pop duo Afrobeta, and today the bill gets even fatter.
Joining the bill is sometime West Palm ambient-electronic act Sumsun, Miami experimental folk artist This Heart Electric, and another genre-expanding presence from the Magic City, Dino Felipe. Previously announced performers include Boxwood, Möthersky, and Astrea Corporation.
With the addition of Sumsun, the night adds the creator of Samo Milagro, New Times' favorite South Florida album of 2010. In concert, Judson Rogers and Edwin Jantunen pile up layers of sonic dissonance to enhance Rogers' studio creations and the show is heading to Austin for SXSW 2012. New Sumsun material is slowly creeping out now.
This Heart Electric, AKA Ricardo Guerrero, had quite a year in 2011. The biggest news of all: Moving the yearly avant-rock festival Death to the Sun out of Miami and up to the burgeoning live music hub Snooze Theatre in Lake Park. Fortunately, he did not say that Fort Lauderdale venues suck, so he was happy to oblige when invited to participate. This is not his first go-around at the Green Room, and his sets as This Heart Electric passionate affairs drowned in amped up acoustic guitar reverb and almost prescient lyricism.
Dino Felipe is one of the most eclectic and prolific artists in South Florida today. Look no further than his recently unveiled "The Covers Album" -- featuring versions of Nirvana, John Maus, Tom Waits, Sonic Youth, and more -- to get a whiff of the stew of punk, lo-fi, and obscura he's cooking up lately.
As previously reported:
The esteemed DJ crew from Radio-Active Records will
provide a seamless backing track for the evening as well.
In addition to the musical portion, the evening will
feature a two-hour feeding and drinking frenzy featuring selections from
the Green Room's kitchen and beer samples from Fresh Beer between 8 and
10 p.m. The balcony area of the venue will be decked with work
from several of the area's premier artists and photographers.
