Last week we brought the story of Esthelhomme Peterson ("Peter"), the 12-year-old Haitian boy brought to the U.S. to get treatment for the massive growth on his neck. His transportation and treatment were arranged by a coalition that included Sen. George LeMieux, a benevolent local attorney, several international aid organizations, and a registered nurse at Broward General.
We just got an update from the hospital. Apparently Peter has been moved to the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a precaution against possible infection. Though hospital officials say as of this morning, there were no signs of infection.
Peter has also been receiving chemo-therapy in an attempt to reduce the size of the tumor prior to any possible surgery.
Because the boy is in the ICU, he can't receive visitors. But we're told mother and son are both in good spirits.
We'll have more as the story continues to develop.
