GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rick "I want to go to war with China" Santorum will be joining Reps. Allen West and Tom Rooney for a cute little picnic this weekend sponsored by the Republican Party of Palm Beach County.
Santorum's appearance at the "GOP Family Picnic," as well as the appearance of Texas Gov. Rick Perry's son, Griffin Perry, were just recently announced by the group's treasurer, Mike Barnett.
Florida has been friendly to Santorum, as he's received more campaign contributions from Florida than any other state, aside from his home state of Pennsylvania.
Around 36 percent of his contributions come from Pennsylvania, 11 percent from Florida, 9 percent from South Carolina, and 7 percent from Virginia. The remaining 37 percent of his funding comes in from the rest of the states.
If you've never heard of Santorum -- his current national polling average is 1.5 percent -- make sure you read the descriptions of links you may be inclined to click on if you're looking him up on Google.
Trust us.
Still, Santorum's on the verge of relevance now -- at least in Iowa.
He kicked off his "Faith, Family and Freedom Tour" there today and plans to campaign in all 99 Iowa counties in anticipation of the state's early primary, and Iowa Republicans' warm reception to his, ahem, strong religious values.
The one clearly good thing about Santorum's appearance in Lake Worth this weekend is that it doesn't cost a few weeks' worth of paychecks to see him, which has been a trend with GOP candidates in Palm Beach County.
Whereas the same group is hosting a dinner with Herman Cain in January at $195 per person, this weekend's picnic is $20 for adults and $10 for kids -- $50 for a family of four -- and you can buy tickets from the group's website.
For the sake of information, here's Dan Savage's New York Times op-ed he wrote about Santorum back in the day.
Free advice: If some trickster asks if you at the picnic if you want Santorum on your sandwich, just say no.
