Don't Tell PETA: SoFla Company Makes Eyelashes from Mink Hair

In a classic case of what-will-they-think-of next? a South Florida company called Aira Cosmetics has launched a line of fake eyelashes made out of mink. They are for sale at and through high-end boutiques like Fred Segal in Beverly Hills.

Previously, a company press release states, only celebrities could afford mink eyelashes -- at $1000 a pair.  Aira is making 'em for the people -- for $100 to $250, and fake mink ones at $24 a pop.

To preempt any protesters, Aira states that "Mink Eyelashes are made of individually selected mink fur hairs that have been harvested by gently brushing live farm animals. Mink eyelashes are not cruel to animals in any way! They are sterilized and hypoallergenic."

The Juice called to find out more about the sourcing and the mysterious mink hair-brushing industry, but the company CEO did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
