The seemingly never-ending construction on the east Las Olas Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will continue even later Tuesday night, which means the bridge will be closed to traffic until Wednesday morning.

This means detours and irritation and confirmation that the Traffic Gods hate you.

The bridge will be closed for construction from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Fun!

All traffic heading eastbound will have to be detoured to Sunrise Boulevard using U.S. 1, while westbound traffic will be detoured to Sunrise Boulevard using A1A.

If it seems like they've been working on the bridge since the Carter Administration, it's because they have.

OK, not really. But the $5.8 million construction has been ongoing since April to overhaul and modernize the 55-year-old bridge's mechanics, making it safer for people to cross.

Repaving the bridge and putting in new railings means giving folks more room to cross the bridge without fear of getting clipped by a vehicle, which would be a bummer.

It's all complaints and grumblings until a bridge collapses or people get knocked into the water by a car.

So, the temporary headache is necessary.

And you can expect another closing come August when workers will complete filling concrete on the northwest side.
