Mike Pouncey Sued by Alleged Victims of Cameo Nightclub Assault

About ten days ago, the victims of an alleged fight that took place at South Beach's Cameo nightclub July 11 said they planned to sue for damages. There had been a birthday celebration for NFL football players Mike and Maurkice Pouncey. (Mike is a Miami Dolphins offensive lineman.)

Now the victims are making good on their claim. On Friday, they sued the brothers in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.

As first obtained by local sports radio host Andy Slater, Ricquan James, Brentley Williams, and Niya Pickett are demanding $15,000 in damages from the Pouncey brothers and the Cameo.

The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that both Pouncey brothers pushed James because he was gay. After James asked them to stop, the two responded with punches to the face. Security members allegedly joined in. The lawsuit also claims that Pickett tried to intervene before allegedly being punched and knocked unconscious by Maurkice. The trio was then dragged, "violently beat and thrown throughout the club and eventually thrown out of the club," according to the suit.

The Dolphins' Pouncey, for his part, will be out of action for a while regardless of what happens with the lawsuit. The team announced today he will be placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform list), making it almost certain he'll miss up to seven games in the regular season and possibly more.

We'll update this post as soon as the Pounceys and Jeff Ostrow (their attorney) respond. This is what Ostrow said when the victims first announced their intention to sue:

"Mike and Maurkice were not involved in any altercation with the accuser or anyone else that night and did nothing wrong," Ostrow wrote. "It appears that the accuser is an opportunist seeking attention and possible financial gain. Any attempt by the accuser or anyone else to bring an action against them based upon these false allegations will be vigorously defended. If the accuser continues to perpetuate these lies, we will bring an action against him."
