Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is the latest victim in the government's campaign to lock up successful Floridians. Today the Lighthouse Point resident began serving a two-year prison sentence for shooting himself in the thigh at a New York City club. The incident occurred in November 2008, with a concealed weapon whose Florida license had expired in May of that year.

Let's skip over the obvious lessons about combining droopy drawers, loaded weapons, and crowded nightclubs. Given the severity of that sentence, Burress should have hired Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers.
