Corinthian Johnson was not going to wait till he turned 16 to start driving, as evidenced by his Clerk of Courts record. Nor was he going to wait till he was 18 to be arrested for a felony. Johnson allegedly stole a black BMW SUV in Aventura on August 28, and that was just his opening act.
Hollywood Police reported spotting Johnson shortly thereafter, but they didn't apprehend him. Yesterday, Lauderdale police found Johnson driving the same black SUV, but he managed to escape again. This capture required a bit more detective work, which led to this encounter last night:
Information was developed on the whereabouts of the Johnson. Surveillance was established by Fort Lauderdale Officers and Detectives. At approximately 2145 hours, officers observed the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated. Johnson rammed into a Fort Lauderdale Police Detective's unmarked vehicle at Northwest 17th Terrace and Oakland Park Boulevard. Johnson continued to drive and eventually rear ended another police vehicle at Northwest 21 Avenue and Northwest 24 Street. Officers were finally able to get the suspect to stop and take him into custody. So you can add battery on a law enforcement officer to the carjacking and evading-arrest charges. If anyone out there has an additional charge to tack on, police contact numbers are after the jump.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Richard Rivera at 954-828-6355, Detective Jason Wood at 954-828-5344, or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
