Here we go again: time to say hello to another workweek. As is usually the case, the weekend probably just seemed to go flying past. Maybe Days of Our Lives was on to someging, "like sands through the hour glass, these are the days of our lives."

If you're looking to pause the passage of sand -- i.e. time, if you didn't get the metaphor -- Broward and Palm Beach Counties have a number of food and drink events this week. Whether you're looking to take a cooking class, drink some wine, dine, or whatever else, there's something that will offer relief from the day-to-day routine -- for, at least, an evening anyway.

Monday

Grilling Fish 101

As more and more individuals have started to move away from meat, fish has become an increasingly popular item in health-conscious diets; however, most people won't cook it at home. To help out would-be seafood cooks, Publix Aprons Cooking School is hosting a grilling fish class on Monday at 6 p.m. For $50 per person, instructors will be giving hands on instructions for citrus mahi mahi; southwest salmon over chipotle slaw; Pacific halibut over white bean puree; and cajun cod with crab succotash.

Publix Apron Cooking School is located at 1181 S. University Drive in Plantation. Call 954-577-7632, or visit publix.com/aprons.

The Beef Class

Whether you consider yourself a carnivore or not, knowing how to prepare a steak never hurt anyone. To brush up on your meat preparation skills, Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School is teaching a beef class on Monday at 7:30 p.m. For $70 per person, participants will learn how to make beef stroganoff, the perfect oven roasted steak, and roasted filet mignon.

Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School is located at 1436 Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-563-2700, or visit chefjeanpierre.com.

Tuesday

Dine Out Lauderdale

Starting tonight and running through November 7, Dine Out Lauderdale has brought together 38 local restaurants, including da Campo Osteria, Johnny V, Wild Sea Oyster Bar & Grille, and more with three course menu deals for $35 per person.

Trivia Night

It's been said that drinking damages brain cells. Counteract the damage with trivia during your weeknight sessions. Every Tuesday at 8 p.m., Mickey Byrnes Irish Pub and Restaurant in Hollywood hosts a Trivia Night to keep your synapses firing while knocking them back. There is no cost to attend, minus, of course, food and beverage purchase.

Micky Byrnes is located at 1921 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood. Call 954-921-2317, or visit mickeybyrnes.com.

Wednesday

Beer Bingo

Bingo may be associated with old people looking to keep occupied, but, like everything else in life, it's pretty awesome when you just add beer. To keep you moving on your way to maturity, the Riverside Market is hosting its monthly beer bingo on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. It costs just five bucks for the first card and $2 for every one after that.

Riverside Market is located at 608 SW 12th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-358-8333, or visit facebook.com/riversidemarket.

Business With a Twist

Like everything else in life, business and networking events are better with booze. To get the social juices flowing, the Pompano Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business get together with a twist at the Oar House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There is no cost to attend. An RSVP is appreciated.

The Oar House is located at 200 E. McNab Road in Pompano Beach. Call 954-785-8878, or visit pompanobeachchamber.com.

Pinot Noir Wine Tasting

Everyone likes a nice bottle of good old Two Buck Chuck, but sometimes you might be in the mood for something a bit more, um, sophisticated. If that's the case, Wine Watch and Cafe Maxx are hosting a pinot noir tasting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. For $35 (excluding tax and gratuity) guests get to sample eight different wines and light bites prepared by chef Oliver Saucy.

Cafe Maxx is located at 2601 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach. Call 954-782-0606, or visit cafemaxx.com.

Thursday

Eat Your Heart Out

Eating is one of the most pleasurable experiences in life. Eating for a good cause only makes it that much better. On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., the Heart Gallery of Broward County is hosting a wine and food event to benefit children living in foster care. For $50 in advance, guests get to snack and sip on small plates and beverages from more than a dozen local restaurants, wine bars, and beverage distributors. The event is taking place at the Galleria Mall. It includes live music and silent auctions.

Visit heartgalleryofbroward.org/wine.

The Galleria Mall is located at 2414 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

Cooking Without Oil

In the field of nutrition, nothing seems to be cut and dry. Some say oils are good; others say they're bad for your health. Learn more about the anti-oil philosophy and how to eliminate it from your diet at Whole Foods Market in Boca Raton this Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. For $10 per person, healthy eating specialist Taylor Cohen will be giving out cooking tips and information to those looking to get the scoop on oil.

Whole Foods Market is located at 1400 Glades Road in Boca Raton. Call 561-447-0000, or visit wholefoodsmarket.com.

Gourmet Truck Expo at Miramar Square

By Thursday night it's time to get out of the house. Bring the family, friends, or whoever else to the Gourmet Truck Expo at Miramar Square from 6 to 10 p.m. In addition to the trucks, the bi-weekly event features a live DJ, balloon artist, local business exhibits, and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Miramar Square is located at 12162 Miramar Parkway in Miramar. Visit gourmettruckexpo.com/tag/miramar-square-mall.
