Instead of loading up on store-bought chocolate and candy hearts come Valentine's Day, know that there's a better option: a Vegan Bake Sale benefiting the lifesaving work of the South Florida Wildlife Center.
The donation-based event on February 14 will feature a whole host of cruelty-free goodies, plus nondairy milks, optional onsite yoga classes, and plenty of mixing and mingling with other health-conscious animal lovers.

"We picked the wildlife center as the beneficiary because they're local and everyone could agree that they're a fantastic resource for our community," says co-organizer and vegan activist Jennifer Mennuti, who says the idea for the sale was dreamed up by fellow advocate Michele Anello. One hundred percent of proceeds will go toward the group's rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts.
While there's no set menu, there'll be a whole host of goodies to choose from. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own vegan treats to donate. So if you've got a killer plant-based brownie recipe -- don't hold back!
"Last time, there was a big assortment ranging from cakes to pistachio brittle," Mennuti says. "Anyone can bring anything as long as it's vegan. We usually have some raw and gluten-free items as well."
"There are yoga classes throughout the day and people can check the website for the schedule. We will also provide vegan info and recipe guides for people looking for info and ideas."
The bake sale will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14, at Anuttara Yoga Shala, 620 SE Tenth St., Deerfield Beach. Visit Facebook.
