Besides a few drunk people behaving rowdy, Las Olas Boulevard is basically a safe place to be on on a Friday night, which is why the news of an armed robbery at American Social is so shocking.
Early this morning (Friday, February 7 at around 1 a.m.), three armed suspects approached two employees at the rear of American Social Bar & Restaurant.
According tho the City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the suspects "brandished firearms and demanded their belongings." After taking the contents of an employee's pants pockets (a cell phone, cash, and car keys), the suspects jumped into a white, four-door Stratus and drove away.
Immediately, the American Social employees, unhurt, called 911 and described both the suspects and the vehicle.
A Fort Lauderdale Police Officer located the car traveling westbound on Broward Boulevard and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspects continued on to I-95 northbound, toward Palm Beach County. According to police reports, the getaway car traveled in excess of 100 miles per hour at some points during the high-speed chase.
The vehicle was finally stopped and the suspects were apprehended while trying to flee on foot. The vehicle was discovered to be stolen from Palm Beach County.
The suspects were identified as Tarik Jarrett, Maurice Sims, Mario Frierson, and Shequilla Shaw, all West Palm Beach residents.
Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this crime contact Detective Richard Rivera at 954-828-6355.
