Post-holiday stupor (and bank balance) put you in the market for something mellow this weekend? Perfect, because things are prettttty quiet in the pre-New Year's Eve buildup. Clean Plate Charlie has rounded up a handful of food- and drink-related activities this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Most are free or really easy on the wallet, giving you more to drop on NYE champagne, strippers, and those little glittery hats that say 2013. Find the weekend's "To Do" list after the jump.
5. Football Sunday
Football nuts who also love cheap beer, this is your Sunday ticket. World of Beer in Wellington will offer $3 Victory drafts all day on Sunday. Wear the jersey of either of the bar's select teams and win a free shot of a Victory draft for every touchdown that team scores. Note: You need to be there at the time of play in order to get the free chug. You can also sign up on a squares board for the chance to win free drafts or a $20 World of Beer gift card. No cost to hang out.
4. Boca Raton Green Market
After a week of eating Christmas cookies for breakfast and washing them down with a chug of eggnog straight from the carton (hey -- no judgement here) it's probably time to get some vitamins and minerals pumping through those veins. Head over to the Boca Raton Green Market between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday in Monument Piazza in Royal Palm Place. Local fruit and vegetable vendors are on hand to offer healthy options, plus Florida stone crabs and Florida honey are popular items to find. And, what the hell: If you're continuing with the gluttony 'til the year's end, there are plenty of baked goods to be had, including some of the best rugelach you've ever had. Parking is free.
3. Double happy hour
Newly opened Ninja Spinning Sushi Bar is doing what it can to entice customers into its ninja warrior lair, with weekly specials like the "double happy hour" from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. (The promo continues through Thursday, if you can't make it out this weekend.) The deal includes buy one/get one offers on cocktails, house wine, and sake, plus $3 sake bombs, $4 bar bites, and $4 select sushi rolls.
2. Early New Year's dinner
Le Bistro will let you kick off 2013 a few days early with a four-course dinner at $35 per person. The first course includes starters like escargot or foie gras roulade. A citrus sorbet will cleanse the palate between the first and third course, which includes everything from a meaty beef Wellington to a meat-free vegetarian platter. Dessert includes creme brulee and "Grandma's" coffee cake tempura, plus a few other choices. The menu debuts tonight (Friday) and continues through New Year's Day. Add a sparkling wine flight for an extra $35.
1. Northwood Village December Art & Wine Promenade
Holiday craziness can often mean that you don't get time to slow down and do cutesy, Americana things like take a stroll through a festively lit downtown. Well, better late than never, right? Tonight's Northwood Village Art & Wine Promenade calls for meandering walks around the village's storefronts and galleries, with stops to sample free wine at Winehooch and a dance party in anticipation of New Year's Eve. The promenade is 6 to 9 p.m. tonight (Friday) in Northwood Village in West Palm Beach. There's no cost to attend.
