More Sloan's Ice Cream stores will be opening in South Florida this year, beginning with the latest location set to open next month in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

The ice cream shop is a sugar high waiting to happen, best-known for its princess-pink walls, 40-something flavors of "luxury" ice cream, shelves of toys and games, and bins filled with bulk candy. And, of course, the exhibitionist-style bathrooms where a glass that reveals all frosts over the moment you lock the door.

The first Sloan's Ice Cream opened in 1999 in West Palm Beach; there are currently five stores in Palm Beach County: Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Boca Raton, and two West Palm Beach locations.

And at least ten more shops will be opening in the coming years, thanks to South Florida couple David and Debra Olmo, who purchased rights to the franchise a few years ago. Together, they plan to open stores from Palm Beach County to Key West, including their first location, which opened last February off Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea will open in October. Doral is up next, said David Olmo, a 2,800-square-foot space that will be their largest store yet.

Olmo's obsession with Sloan's Ice Cream began 12 years ago, when he first visited the Boca Raton store in Mizner Park. Just one lick and Olmo said he knew he'd one day open his own store. Fast-forward a few years and right now he can't decide if his favorite flavor is "Tracy's Scrumptious Pretzel" or "Mom's Apple Pie." And he's even gained a few pounds since opening his first franchise location in Delray Beach to prove it.

"We just love the model and the concept with Sloan's," said Olmo. "It's a fantasyland for kids. If you want to take your kids out for ice cream, it's not going to be your average trip. It's going to be an adventure."

The newest Lauderdale-by-the-Sea location will be a small store -- about 1,600 square feet -- but will be the franchise's first Broward County location for patrons looking to snag a taste of luxury ice cream. The store is located just one block from the ocean, in a shopping center with Acteca Mexican Grill.

Sloan's Ice Cream will be located at 112 Commercial Blvd. in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Visit sloanesicecream.com for more information.
